Today, many American households and businesses do not have access to solar because they rent, live in multi-tenant buildings, have roofs that are unable to host a solar system, or experience some other mitigating factor. Community solar provides homeowners, renters, and businesses equal access to the economic and environmental benefits of solar energy generation regardless of the physical attributes or ownership of their home or business. In other words, if you can’t install solar directly on your property, community solar can be a good option for accessing the savings and other benefits solar provides.
Community solar projects generate power much like rooftop systems, but rather than the clean energy going directly to one location, it is funneled into the local electrical grid. Members subscribe to portions of the farm and receive credits on their utility bill based on the amount of energy produced by their share. This solution is generally more efficient than individual-owned panels. Typically, community solar projects are located on land free from obstructions, resulting in ideal conditions for maximum amount of sunlight and energy production. Community solar projects are generally sized between 1 and 5 megawatts and produce grid-tied clean energy. Moving to a new home? No problem. Most Community solar programs provide flexibility to members allowing them to move within utility service territories or by subscribing to a different project.
Hosting a community solar project helps provide lower cost renewable energy to the community, allows for multiple uses of the land and provides a steady long term source of income.
Our systems are designed with a holistic approach in mind. Projects can work for livestock grazing, cultivating crops or providing a pollinator habitat.
When you subscribe to a community solar project, You reserve production from a portion of the system to offset your annual electricity usage. The amount of production from your portion is credited on your electricity bill. Paddle Energy will bill you separately for your production from the solar farm at an agreed upon discount from your normal electricity bill. There are no sign up fees and our contract terms are flexible to suit your needs.
